4 Questions You Should be Asking to Advance Your Career

Whether you are a recent hire or seasoned executive, constantly improving your professional or managerial skills is a key element when trying to advance your career. But how can you improve if you don’t know what you are doing wrong? Well, the only way to answer this question is to ask questions of your own.

Many people are hesitant to ask questions because of the fear to look ignorant, unsure or indecisive. However, this is one of the most effective ways to learn and make informed decisions. If you want to continue improving, growing as a professional, and advance your career, you need to ask the following questions:

  1. What could I be doing better?
  1. What could I be doing differently?
  1. How can I be a better employee/manager?
  1. What should I be doing to get a promotion?

Talk to your co-workers, your employees or your boss; ask them these questions and see what they say. Their answers may be different or even contradictory to each other, but if you hear the same answer more than once, you should really pay attention to it.

These questions might seem simple, but asking them requires the courage and mindset of a true leader.
